Islands Society Commemorates Pacific Council Anniversary

Honolulu, HI, April 29, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Today, the Islands Society marked the third anniversary of the founding of the Pacific Council.

Founded on February 22, 2013, the Pacific Council was a low-profit digital agency that sought to design and develop a social networking service for residents and former residents of Hawaii and the U.S. Pacific Territories.

Following the design of the social networking service, the Pacific Council realized that the concept could more effectively be developed and implemented as a non-commercial service provided by a non-profit organization than as a commercial service provided by a for-profit company. For this reason, the Pacific Islands Society was incorporated on December 3, 2013.

As a nonprofit corporation, the Pacific Islands Society went on to develop and implement many of the social networking platforms originally envisioned by the Pacific Council. The Islands Society therefore wanted to publicly acknowledge the importance of this date in its history.

About the Islands Society
The Islands Society is a “Top-Rated” American 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to respect, inspire, and empower islanders around the world. These projects are currently organized around two main themes: community projects and next generation leaders. The community projects center on ten issue areas, including charity, conservation, democracy, disaster relief, education, equality, health, innovation, security, and sustainability. Meanwhile, the next generation leader projects support artists, athletes, chefs, incubators, musicians, policymakers, storytellers, and technologists. The Islands Society was formed by the merger of the Emerging Science and Technology Policy Centre and Pacific Islands Society.
