The Wine Throwdown to Debut 1/11/08

On Friday, January 11, 2008, The Wine Throwdown and its site www.thewinethrowdown.com will debut its novel approach to selling wine.

Miami, FL, January 10, 2008 --(PR.com)-- On Friday, January 11th, The Wine Throwdown and its website www.thewinethrowdown.com will debut. The Wine Throwdown is an online wine retailer focused on showcasing two wines per day to consumers, with a twist. Each 'Throwdown' or battle has an overarching theme, one which pits the wines against each other. Ultimately, it is the consumers' voices which decide the winner; the wine which sells out the quickest is deemed the victor.

“There seems to be an increasing rivalry in the wine world, whether it be between Pinot Noir and Merlot, ala Sideways, Bordeaux versus California Cabernet Sauvignon in terms of age worthiness and investment potential or just everyday drinking preferences,” said The Wine Throwdown Executive Director Matt Diaz. “What we're trying to do is acknowledge that people have deep seated allegiances to the wines they drink and instead of scolding the customer or saying 'your tastes are wrong' we're saying 'let's have some fun with this.' Along the way, we're hoping that people will cross those battle lines and try something out of their wine drinking comfort zone, just on their own terms.”

Those consumers who purchase the winning wine that day will receive special discounts.

“What we've done is come up with a rewards system called 'Bragging Rights.' To us, part of the fun of the Throwdowns is trying to predict in advance which wine will be that day's winner. When the winner of the previous day's Throwdown is announced, those consumers that picked up a bottle of that winning wine will be offered discounted shipping, gift cards, t-shirts and other cool gear,” Diaz said.

Every morning at 12:01 am, a new 'Throwdown' will be announced on www.thewinethrowdown.com and consumers will have the chance to purchase a limited quantity of just one or both of the wines for the following 24 hours. During the first two weeks of operation, The Wine Throwdown will feature three battles per week after which the format will shift to a different battle daily. Friday's inaugural Throwdown has not been revealed.
