Clarendon Hills, IL, July 29, 2016 --(PR.com
)-- Residents and associates of The Birches Assisted Living in Clarendon Hills, Ill. were transported to the Hawaiian Islands on July 24 for the Birches’ 15th annual summer luau.
The luau has become a summer staple at The Birches because it gives everyone in The Birches community an opportunity to take a tropical vacation in the comfort of their own backyard.
“Not everyone gets to go to Hawaii or a tropical island in their lifetime and this is the next best thing,” said Birches’ Activities Director Katie Klitchman. “It’s also a great way for everyone to kick back, embrace the heat and enjoy summer.”
Residents and associates got to experience all of the sights and sounds of a traditional Polynesian luau, including a tropical buffet-style feast, a tiki bar with exotic cocktails and a musical performance by an authentic Polynesian-style ensemble—the Barefoot Hawaiians.
The Barefoot Hawaiians pride themselves in bringing an authentic Hawaiian experience to the Chicagoland area—and they definitely brought that experience to The Birches. Their performance included traditional costumes, vibrant music, cultural folklore and a lot of audience participation. They also offered hula lessons to those who wanted the most authentic island experience possible.
“Everyone had a great time. We ate, we danced and we got to experience the Hawaiian culture first-hand,” said Klitchman. “All in all, it was the perfect summer ‘staycation.’ And the weather was hot, so it really felt tropical!”
