Element 84 Acquires Activate.digital

Adds user experience, visual design, and digital strategy to highly-scalable software development capabilities. Allows broad, single-source offering in web, mobile, and Internet application development. Combined companies will strongly leverage core competencies in user experience design, petabyte search, Earth sciences, and consumer video streaming services.

Alexandria, VA, August 03, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Element 84 and activate.digital today announced a definitive agreement under which Element 84 would acquire activate.digital. Dave Bushnell, former Executive Creative Director of Lady Gaga’s digital team and current CEO of activate.digital will join Element 84 as Chief Creative Officer.

The acquisition will couple Element 84’s deep roots in high-volume satellite data, Earth sciences, and consumer streaming platforms for government and consumer clients with activate.digital’s expertise in digital product strategy, usability, and design. The combination is expected to enable new classes of services that integrate strategic and design insights with cloud-based software engineering.

“Element 84 has always been proud of our ability to communicate with our customers and our users,” said Tracey Pilone, President of Element 84. “As we’ve grown, we’ve matured into an organization that’s created complex systems with advanced technical capabilities, and those systems are incomplete without the best possible user experience. With the acquisition of activate.digital, we now have increased our capabilities, from highly performant front end development to visual design and UI/UX. The ability to provide a complete solution for our customers is something we’re very excited about.”

"This acquisition came out of a close working relationship, so we’ve already seen firsthand the origins of e84’s reputation as technical talents,” said Dave Bushnell, CEO of activate.digital. “We’ve never had a bigger opportunity to develop best practices for user-facing design that’s built right into the technical DNA of very large projects. User experience isn’t just what’s on a screen anymore, and this merger creates an organization that understands usability at every layer of the technical stack.”

activate.digital will join Element 84 in their Old Town Alexandria offices and then the combined companies will move to new, larger offices in the fall.
