Knoxville, TN, January 19, 2008 --(PR.com)-- HeartScore & More Screenings Available in February. Covenant Health Organizations Fight Heart Disease.

The medical facilities of Covenant Health are working together to fight heart disease in February by hosting special cardiac screenings that can detect heart disease long before patients become symptomatic. Heart disease can be halted or prevented if the condition is diagnosed early enough.

Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center, Fort Sanders West Diagnostic Center, and Parkwest Medical Center will offer “HeartScore & More,” a comprehensive array of screening and non-invasive tests for the early detection of cardiovascular disease. Tests will be available by appointment at various locations and dates throughout the month of February.

“Heart disease is a silent killer,” said Dr. Fred McLean, Fort Sanders West Diagnostic Center radiologist. “This screening can save lives by encouraging people who have risk factors for heart disease to seek early intervention.”

The HeartScore & More package includes an innovative screening test using a multi-slice CT scanner that measures coronary artery calcification which indicates the presence and severity of atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries, a major risk factor for heart attack.

This non-invasive test takes less than 15 minutes, and if a patient’s results fall within a given range of calcium deposit levels, he or she will be referred back to their doctor for more testing and possible treatment.

Patients will also receive a heart health self-assessment, blood pressure check, ankle brachial index screening for peripheral vascular disease, and lipid profile including total cholesterol, the good (HDL) and bad cholesterol (LDL), triglycerides and glucose. The lipid profile requires a 12-hour fast.

The cost for the complete HeartScore & More package is only $125. The screenings are open to women and men. Appointments may be made by calling Covenant Health at 865-541-4500 or visit www.covenanthealth.com.
