Neville Foot & Ankle Centers Partner with Memorial Herman Hospital to Establish Limb Salvage Team

Neville Foot & Ankle Centers is pleased to announce Dr. Suniti Patel and Memorial Hermann Hospital are working together to establish the Limb Salvage Team.

The Woodlands, TX, August 25, 2016 --(PR.com)-- “We are very excited to partner with Memorial Hermann Hospital in establishing the Limb Salvage Team. Early detection plays an important role in limb salvage. Dr. Suniti Patel is an excellent physician and provides a great blend of top-notch clinical education and knowledge with a strong passion for providing community-based care," says Dr. Robert E. Neville.”

Dr. Suniti Patel and Memorial Hermann Hospital are working together to establish the Limb Salvage Team. Podiatrists play an important role in the multidisciplinary team in diabetic limb salvage. A Limb Salvage Team involves pairing specialists who seldom work side-by-side — like podiatrists and vascular surgeons — to shave weeks off the time it can take to get proper care.

A large population in our communities suffer from diabetes. Preventing amputations is a collaborative effort with life-changing and life-saving results for patients.

Studies have demonstrated that the five-year mortality rate in patients with diabetes following major amputation is significant — greater even than many major forms of cancer. Diabetes around the globe results in one major limb amputation every 30 seconds with over 2,500 limbs lost per day.

Even with continued control of the disease, the complications and risk factors for lower extremity involvement remain high. Small, frequently neglected foot problems, such as calluses, corns, ingrown nails and dry scaly skin, may be signs that signal the development of more significant problems. Early recognition and diagnosis of these factors in combination with aggressive preventative measures and a team approach will all be beneficial in the treatment of the diabetic foot with the ultimate goal of amputation reduction and prevention.
