Cocktails for a Cause … Designing the Future

Supporting Women’s Empowerment Programs

Lawrenceville, NJ, August 28, 2016 --(PR.com)-- On November 10th, Dress for Success Mercer County (DFSMC) will hold its annual Cocktails for a Cause fundraiser at Greenacres Country Club from 6:00-8:30 pm. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness and funds for the services and programs provided by DFSMC. Each year, nearly 1,000 women in the Greater Mercer County area benefit from DFSMC. Whether it’s acquiring a suit for an interview or learning valuable skills to enhance employability, DFSMC is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and improving the lives of disadvantaged women and their families.

This year’s event, Designing the Future, promises an evening of friendship and inspiration. Featured honoree is Dr. Jianping Wang, President of Mercer County Community College. Dr. Wang will enlighten those in attendance with the story of her journey of being an unwanted girl in China to becoming a progressive educational leader in America. Her story embodies the essence of DFSMC. All of the women who are served by DFSMC have fallen on difficult times and are looking for a way to improve their circumstance. Stories like Dr. Wang’s show that there is hope for a better future. Says, Wang, “What defines you is not how or why you fell on hard times, but how you get up and move forward from there.”

In addition to Dr. Wang, women who have benefited from DFSMC services will share their inspiring stories which often include overcoming homelessness and abuse. As a result of the support of DFSMC, these women have now secured steady employment and financial stability.

Additional honorees for the evening include Hamilton Jewelers and PNC Bank. Through event support and auction donations, Hamilton Jewelers has been a longtime supporter of DFSMC. PNC Bank, known for its support of women in business, has provided financial support as well as mentoring support to DFSMC. Employees from PNC are scheduled to present at DFSMC’s Financial Literacy Program.

According to Melissa Tenzer, Executive Director of Dress for Success Mercer County, “Our community collaborations are at the core of Dress for Success Mercer’s vision. We together, with our local colleges, businesses, banks and retailers can impact our community and the women we serve more effectively.”
