Keep Irving Beautiful Attends North Lake College Service Learning Fair

Irving, TX, September 21, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) staff attended the North Lake College Service Learning Fair on Thursday, September 15, along with representatives from a variety of other non-profit organizations. The purpose of the fair, which was held at the central campus from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., was to inform students about the Service Learning opportunities available to them. After visiting the different tables and finding out more about each agency, they choose one to enroll with for the fall semester. Instructors who participate in the program typically require their students to complete 15 to 20 hours of service during the semester, and submit a reflection paper on what they gained from their experience.

“Partnering with North Lake College has been a very enjoyable and beneficial experience for us,” said KIB board member Kelly Horn. “Keep Irving Beautiful first joined the Service Learning Program in 2008, and we have participated every spring and fall semester since. The students who have worked with KIB have contributed thousands of volunteer hours in events like cleanups, paint projects, tree plantings and environmental skits. We offer a wide variety of volunteer opportunities that the students can participate in and hopefully come away with a sense of accomplishment in having contributed to the betterment of the community while receiving a meaningful learning experience.”
