The conference will kick off with an engaging presentation by the Walter C. Alvarez Award winner, Roxanne Khamsi, Chief News Editor of the international biomedical journal Nature Medicine. On Thursday, October 6, Ms. Khamsi will be honored for her longtime focus as a medical reporter on health research in underreported regions of the world and her efforts to champion stories about studies that challenge the scientific status quo. She will discuss new findings on the use of jargon in medical literature.

On Saturday, October 8, Dr. Kevin Pho will receive the John P. McGovern Award. Dr. Pho is an expert in the convergence of social media, health care, and medicine.
