Civica CMI Recruits New Developers via Coding Academy

Civica CMI recently announced a recruitment initiative to grow its development team through an innovative training program, "Civica CMI Code Academy."

Englewood, OH, October 28, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Civica CMI, part of Civica, an international market leader in specialist software, technology and outsourcing services that transform the way people work, today announced a recruitment initiative to grow its development team through an innovative training program, "Civica CMI Code Academy."

Civica CMI is leading software business in Ohio with particular expertise and track record in supplying public services to numerous clients including the City of Toledo and Hardin County Fire Department.

A key objective of the academy is to provide comprehensive training to candidates who have a passion for programming, to help them build the skills required to gain employment as a developer.

According to Civica CMI Development Director, Mark Jordan, the company had noticed an untapped pool of eager young candidates, who despite strong passion for software development, lacked the field experience and education in order to secure roles.

“Civica CMI Code Academy offers training, mentoring and opportunities to the under-employed and helps Civica gain valuable employees. The right candidates are out there, they just need us to help them gain the right skills.”

“We also founded the program out of frustration in our previous searches for talented and experienced developers. Many technology-based companies in the Dayton area had closed, downsized or outsourced IT over the years, prompting many talented developers to relocate,” said Jordan.

As part of the program, up to five individuals are selected to participate in the Civica CMI Code Academy following an aptitude test. The chosen participants are then required to attend classes at the Civica CMI campus for approximately 28 hours per week over a period of 10 weeks.

Academy participants are paid as part time employees during the entire 10 week training sessions. Upon successfully completing the Civica CMI Code Academy, a full time position as a junior developer at Civica CMI is offered to students.

After learning about the brief history of computing, academy students are instructed to attend lectures and hands on instruction in computer software development. Key concepts covered include programming languages, relational database management systems (SQL Server), database design and architecture, estimating work completion dates, application debugging, coding web applications using HTML and ASP.NET and many other unique skills and techniques necessary to ensuring a successful career as a developer.

“Our intention is to identify talented individuals who can be mentored and become a permanent part of our staff. Hence, a big portion of the academy is dedicated to practical training. For instance one of the student projects we came up with involved the requirement to build an application for a fictitious hotel.”

“Academy participants needed to build an application that would allow hotel guests to make reservations, check in, check out, and get an invoice or receipt. The application also needed to be able to produce reports for different staff members of the hotel,” said Jordan.

To date, four participants have now graduated from the Civica CMI Code Academy. Two of the graduates were offered full time employment with Civica CMI as Junior Developers and accepted the offer. The other two participants are currently enrolled in college full time and are focused on finishing their degrees.
