Dr. Lawrence Gray Attends Conference in Japan

Dr. Lawrence Gray attended the 23rd Biennial Congress of ISAPS held in Kyoto, Japan from October 23rd to 27th, 2016.

Portsmouth, NH, November 05, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Lawrence Gray attended the 23rd Biennial Congress of ISAPS held in Kyoto, Japan from October 23rd to 27th, 2016. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons is the pre-eminent academic organization of plastic surgeons from around the world with the function of sharing scientific findings and surgical technique for the betterment of cosmetic surgery of the face and body to member surgeons. Plastic surgeons from 85 countries attended. Only about 10% of plastic surgeons from the United States belong to this organization. Dr. Gray has belonged to ISAPS for 11 years.

Dr. Gray regularly attends ISAPS meetings and has presented on his techniques of Scarless Breast Reduction and Drainless Tummy Tucks numerous times. Dr. Gray states, “I love to learn from accomplished plastic surgeons and to contribute what I can to my profession. The most important benefit of attending such high level conferences is that it helps me continue to provide the most advanced surgical techniques for my patients. I have been invited to speak in other countries, most recently Tunisia, as a result of the many respected surgeons I have met. This experience has been a cherished one in my life.”

Dr. Gray continues, “I am very excited about a new focus of technique for facelifts. Several surgeons presented findings on facelifts that made a strong case for placing less emphasis on performing neck incisions and new emphasis on fat grafting to the central face. Fat grafting or adding fat to the central face replaces the fat atrophy that happens with age. By not doing as many incisions to the neck, the result is quicker recovery with fewer complications.”

Dr. Gray also attended a master class on reconstructive surgery after massive weight loss from a Brazilian plastic surgeon. Post-bariatric surgery is gaining much interest world-wide. Many surgeons are finding it safe to perform multiple procedure, such as circumferential abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), thigh lift, arm lift and mastopexy (breast lift surgery) all at the same time. Dr. Gray states, “I have been performing multiple procedures all along for my post-bariatric surgery patients and this further evidence of the safety of the doing multiple procedures re-confirms my instincts.”

Dr. Gray observed that breast implant research is more advanced in other countries over research by American companies. One breast implant company who attended the conference announced that they are in negotiations with the FDA for trials for their implant to be used in the United States next year. There is currently no research being done is this country due to prohibitive costs caused by FDA regulations. “The result, in my opinion, is that other countries are passing us by. I hope to be part of the trial when it is introduced in the U.S. next year, which will give me access to the more advanced implants before any other practices around the country.”

Dr. Gray continued his education into Japanese history and culture by visiting many of the 17 UNESCO world heritage sites including Tokyo, Kanazawa, Osaka, and a few smaller towns with ancient Japanese castles, the most important visit, being to the Peace Museum at Hiroshima, which was a deeply moving experience for he and his wife.
