Native American Community to Join As One Unity Event During National Anthem at Div. I College Basketball Game

Reno, NV, November 09, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Student Athletes from the Nevada Women’s Basketball Team are planning an As One Unity Event where they will be joining with the Native American community of Northern Nevada during The National Anthem prior to their game on November 11, 2016 at the Lawlor Event Center in Reno, Nevada.

The goal of the As One Events is to bring together players and various groups, ethnicities and professions to promote unity during the playing of The National Anthem throughout the team’s 18 home games this season.

“The athlete protests happening around the country during the playing of the National Anthem are very controversial,” a spokesperson for the event said. “Instead of portraying an image of controversy by kneeling or raising fists, the players want to join hands and lift them together in a show of unity with the many diverse groups and professions that make up our community,” she added.

The first As One Event was held on November 5th, bringing together team members with local Law Enforcement representatives in a show of unity. “This was our way of thanking them for their service and appreciation for joining our team at the As One kick-off event during our first home game of the season,” the spokesperson concluded.

Upcoming As One Unity Events are planned to include the Armed Forces and Veterans, Faith and Religious groups, Breast Cancer Survivors and LGBTQ community. For a complete schedule of upcoming events and groups participating, please visit http://www.asoneunity.com/.
