Zonta Douglas County Delivers Safeway-Provided Meals to 222 Denver Metro Area Families

The 3,000 lbs. of Thanksgiving Day food was enough to feed more than 1,300 people.

Castle Rock, CO, November 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The mission of Zonta Douglas County is to improve the lives of women and children. This week, its members partnered with their local Safeway store to make sure more than 1,332 people had a delicious Thanksgiving meal.

“Through Front-end Manager Erica Solis and all of the checkers who sold Turkey Bucks to customers, Safeway was able to give us enough boxes of mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and Turkey breasts to feed 222 families or more than 1,300 people,” explains Judy Nesavich, Zonta Douglas County president.

“Our members paired up in small groups and took the food throughout the Denver Metro Area—to the Douglas Elbert Task Force, Family Tree, the Denver Rescue Mission, the Women’s Crisis Center, the North Denver Baptist Church and several other churches,” Nesavich says. “More than 3,000 lbs. of food were delivered and our club members felt like we really made a difference today.”

In addition to volunteering for programs like delivering Thanksgiving meals, Zonta Douglas County gives grants to community groups and scholarships to high school seniors. Its programs are funded primarily through its annual Trivia Night Fundraiser scheduled for April 8, 2017. Teams of six adults compete in eight rounds of mind-bending trivia with cash prizes for the top teams. For more information on the 2017 event, visit www.zontadouglascounty.org.
