Caldwell, Idaho Business Donates 50 EMPWR Coats for Boise Homeless to Keep Them Alive Through Winter Months

Caldwell, Idaho business Holman Transportation Co. researched and donated 50 life-saving EMPWR (made in the USA) coats that can save shelter resistant homeless in Idaho. The ingenious coat design acts as a sleeping bag, duffle bag and wearable coat.

Boise, ID, December 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Christmas spirit of giving continues after two sold out nights of the 11th annual Xtreme Holiday Xtravaganza fundraiser at the historic Egyptian Theater as Idaho's largest emergency shelter, Interfaith Sanctuary in Boise, Idaho, received an incredible donation from a local area business: 50 EMPWR survival coats made for the chronically homeless who are shelter resistant designed for their survival this exceptionally cold and snowy December and coming winter months.

Business owners Bob and Sherry Holman of Holman Transportation Services, Inc., a family owned and operated carrier in Caldwell, Idaho in business since 1997, contacted shelter development director Jodi Peterson right before the holidays and offered the shelter 50 EMPWR coats, costing $100 each.

The specialty coats are designed with durable American-made materials from Carhartt and General Motors and can keep someone outdoors alive to below zero temperatures with their unique construction, as the design also becomes a sleeping bag and a carry bag.

Interfaith Sanctuary staff have been communicating directly with the shelter resistant homeless Boiseans staying outside, and have learned various reasons why they are resistant to come in, and what they need to feel secure inside the shelter at night.

Interfaith Sanctuary directors Dan Ault and Jodi Peterson learned firsthand that many of these people had been kicked out of other shelters and had lost all of their bedding and belongings, and subsequently were afraid to enter any shelter because of this.

Several shelter resistant homeless people explained to Interfaith Sanctuary that they suffer from mental health issues that may cause them to misbehave in stressful situations such as being inside a building with so many people and feeling unsafe and vulnerable. Some are afraid of being separated from loved ones or an animal they may have with them.

Interfaith's Jodi Peterson says: "This coat would allow them to try our shelter and if it becomes too much, they can simply take their EMPWR coat - which also turns into a bag - and leave without the loss of any of their items. If our guests elect to sleep outside still, they will be made safer because of the unique design of this coat that transforms into a sleeping bag. We are grateful for the Holman Transportation Company's well researched and thoughtful donation which came in right when our weather has turned for the worst, with heavy snow and many days registering below zero and now a forecast Yukon blast expected the end of this week."
