CERTON Completes Delivery of Requirements, Design, Validation, & Verification for Major Milestone on Fly-by-Wire Flight Controls FPGA Program

CERTON Engineering was responsible for all RTCA/DO-254 Design Assurance Level (DAL) A Requirements, Design, and Independent Validation & Verification activities on the Fly-By-Wire Flight Controls Remote Electronics Unit (REU) using CERTON’s proprietary CertBENCH Automated Test Environments (ATE) for requirements based In-Circuit Testing of FPGAs.

Melbourne, FL, January 13, 2017 --(PR.com)-- CERTON performed activities to satisfy the relevant DO-254 DAL A Major Milestone objectives for both the Flight Controls REU Command and Monitor Lane FPGAs. CERTON developed hardware requirements, in cooperation with the customer, from aircraft level requirements and performed the flow down through conceptual and detailed design, including traceability, independent reviews, and validation activities. CERTON utilized proven DO-254 FPGA development and verification standards, processes, experience, tools, templates, and unique technology to develop, review, debug, and execute hardware test cases and procedures to demonstrate the FPGA code correctly implemented hardware requirements.

The method of verification used both simulation and functional test procedures from the hardware test cases using CERTON’s standardized test file templates. The proprietary CertBENCH automated test environments provided comprehensive functional In Circuit Testing (ICT) of the actual FPGA target hardware against the requirements. The FPGA simulation test results were compared with the ICT test results for exact match within tolerance for all input/output vectors based on requirements with results summarized in the Hardware Verification Report (HVR).

The customer Quality Assurance team and CERTON worked together to review the final deliverables for this Major Milestone. The collaboration and teamwork between CERTON and the customer set new standards for the customer and all of their FPGA projects going forward. Timothy Stockton, President & CEO at CERTON stated, “Our management and engineering team is very proud to have achieved this Major Milestone for our customer within the original Firm Fixed Price budget and schedule for the program leveraging our CertBENCH ATEs and unparalleled DO-254 DAL A flight controls electronic hardware approval process capability.” Over the last decade, CERTON has established an identity of unparalleled safety‑critical certification solutions in the aerospace, medical device, and transportation industries.
