New Research In Action Report - Next Generation APM: The Top 20 Global Vendors 2017

CISCO’s acquisition of AppDynamics for $3.7 billion shows the huge importance of Application Performance Management for businesses.

Hartenfels, Germany, January 27, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Research In Action GmbH publishes its newest market analysis report Vendor Selection Matrix – Next Generation Application Performance Management SaaS And Software: The Top 20 Global Vendors 2017.

The Vendor Selection Matrix is a unique, primarily survey-based methodology for comparative vendor evaluation. A minimum of 60% of the evaluation results are based on a combined telephone and online survey covering 1,225 IT buyers in enterprises worldwide. The analyst’s opinion accounts for a maximum of 40% of the evaluation results (not close to 100% as in most other vendor evaluations).

Dr. Thomas Mendel Ph.D., Managing Director of the Research In Action GmbH comments on the results of the study:

1) IT Service, Application and Operations Management is steadily growing in importance. And so is Application Performance Management. Last year, Research In Action already stated an all-time high, but the market is still growing this year and the outlook is also solid. There are more than 400 active software and SaaS vendors in the market today.
2) Application Performance Management has a long history in many enterprises. Some implementations are already more than 25 years old. Vendors and IT buyers alike are struggling with updating their solution sets to accommodate the quickly changing requirements. The Next Generation Application Performance Management solutions, however, will be based on a clearer set of requirements, making it easier to implement and maintain, as well as to compare vendors. This will ultimately lead to a vendor landscape that is much more comparable than the one in today’s highly fragmented market.
3) The vendor Top 3 of the APM market is comprised of the clear market leader (Dynatrace, a former part of Compuware, now dedicated to APM) and two companies as joint #2s (BMC Software and CA Technologies, both large portfolio players). The rest of the Top 10 is made up mainly of point-product vendors like ServiceTrace and Splunk. This highly dynamic market will see a lot of M&A activity in the future, following the acquisition of AppDynamics by CISCO and the upcoming spin-off and merger of Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s non-core software assets with Micro Focus.
