San Juan, PR, February 15, 2017 --(PR.com
)-- Dr. Juan Tapia-Mendoza, a pediatrician based in Harlem in New York, NY is urging patients and their families to continue to live their lives and enjoy the Spring Break season. With Zika cases markedly and steadily declining in Puerto Rico, it’s evident that the combined executed efforts of the government and industry are working. Dr. Mendoza’s advice supports the Puerto Rico Tourism Company’s (PRTC) ongoing efforts of arming travelers with the latest information.
Dr. Mendoza, who has a large Puerto Rican and Dominican patient base, encourages his patients to put their concerns about the Zika virus in proper perspective, “I have a lot of patients who are heading back to their homelands this Spring Break and conversations about Zika fall under my general sex education and travel precautionary counsel. There is no reason why travelers can’t have a worry-free Spring Break, continuing to follow guidelines put in place by the CDC.”
Warm weather destinations are always top of mind for travelers seeking to escape the lingering winter weather. Whether travelling solo or in a group, Puerto Rico offers a rich Spring Break experience full of diverse tourist offerings from sports to ecological adventures.
“Dr. Mendoza’s powerful message is key in allaying fears with travelers returning to the Island to visit their families and for those heading to Puerto Rico for a Spring Break experience,” said PRTC Executive Director José R. Izquierdo II. “It’s a new Puerto Rico. We are open for business and welcome travelers to our world class destination.”
The PRTC is working closely with the CDC and the local Department of Public Health to ensure visitors are informed about Zika in Puerto Rico. The PRTC and the Puerto Rico Hotel & Tourism Association (PRHTA) continue to take every precaution possible to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds at hotels and resorts, and educate visitors about preventing mosquito bites. Visitors should follow CDC guidelines to regularly apply bug spray with DEET, wear long sleeve clothing, and adhere to safe family planning practices - if not pregnant or trying to conceive the risk is minimal. Travelers should be smart, consult physicians regarding any concerns and travel plans can be easily enjoyed.
