“Sadly it seems almost daily we are hearing about officer involved shootings in the news,” said Lance LoRusso, author of When Cops Kill, Blue News, and Peacemaking. “More than ever before law enforcement agencies need to be prepared in dealing with such a situation when it arises, as what the agency confronts in today’s 24/7 social media driven age can be daunting. I am honored to be addressing this critical issue at the Georgia FBI’s Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar."

Blue News is Lance LoRusso’s latest book. Readers will learn how after officer-involved shootings, law enforcement agencies work to develop and communicate their message to the media, what happens within law enforcement agencies after an officer-involved shooting while the message that will be communicated to the public is being developed, and the dynamic that drives the news media to cover and report on critical incidents involving law enforcement. The book takes into account the role that social media plays in driving the narratives in officer-involved shootings and its importance as more and more people obtain their information or form opinions from social media. Proceeds from the sale of Blue News are being donated to charities for law enforcement officers and their families.

When Cops Kill: The Aftermath of a Critical Incident was LoRusso’s first book and is a comprehensive study for law enforcement and family members of law enforcement officers to deal with the aftermath of the law enforcement officer having been involved in a shooting or violent alteration with a suspect. The book deals with the media coverage that will follow such an incident, the investigation, the potential of a civil lawsuit and how to deal emotionally with such an incident. The book is an excellent resource for law enforcement officers and their family members for the day when the call of duty leads to more than a random warrant being served or ticket being issued. LoRusso draws on his hands-on experience as a former law enforcement officer as well as an attorney who represents law enforcement officers. Proceeds from the sale of When Cops Kill are also being donated to charities for law enforcement officers and their families.
