Texas Association of Health Underwriters Launches Advocacy Initiative

TAHU Touts Objectivity and Information in Operation ‘Health Advocacy’

Dallas, TX, February 22, 2008 --(PR.com)-- With the Texas primaries fast approaching, consumers are bombarded by political messages touting reform and change. During this important time, the state’s association of health underwriters is launching a consumer education and advocacy program, dubbed “Operation: Health Advocacy,” designed to cut through political rhetoric and objectively inform consumers regarding the realities of health care, health insurance and the impact of government versus private sector efforts.

Under Texas Association of Health Underwriters (TAHU) president Carolyn Goodwin, the aggressive new program avails the association as the primary and go to source of objective information to consumers, businesses and the media regarding issues of health insurance and health care. Goodwin knows that much of the discussions regarding health care and health insurance have been polarizing issues. Health care issues can be extremely complicated to explain. There are various “what if” scenarios, causing many consumers to remain ill informed as to the impact of changes and proposed reforms even with a proliferation of information.

The thrust of the campaign focuses on bettering consumer understanding of three major issues:

• Single Payer/Universal Healthcare proposals
• The uninsured challenge
• The true cost drivers for health insurance

“It is critical that our electorate and consumers in general have straight , apolitical answers when it comes to health care and health insurance, and it is our mission to provide a source of objective information that consumers can count on to help them make critical decisions,” Goodwin says. “We advocate on behalf of consumers to ensure consistency and quality of care, new innovations in health insurance, and the understanding that insurance is a choice that should be affordable and available.”

Goodwin adds that the association has a long track record of commitment and legislative advocacy to continually find innovation and bring more control over health care and health insurance industries directly to consumers.
