2nd Annual "Dobby’s Sock Drive" Collecting New Socks for the Midnight Mission Benefitting Los Angeles’ Homeless Community

Los Angeles Harry Potter fan group partners with local area comic book stores to collect new men's, women's and children's socks for The Midnight Mission to be distributed to the homeless before the winter months.

Los Angeles, CA, October 18, 2017 --(PR.com)-- The Los Angeles Dumbledore's Army, the second largest Harry Potter fan group in the world since 2008, is once again using its popularity to give back to the community. This is the 2nd Annual "Dobby's Sock Drive” which began on Friday, October 13th and will run through Friday November 10th, collecting socks at local comic book stores for The Midnight Mission, an institution providing support to Los Angeles’ homeless population.

The Los Angeles Dumbledore’s Army is requesting new, unused socks be donated in men's, women's and children's sizes, which will be distributed by The Midnight Mission to the Los Angeles’ homeless before the cold winter months. During Los Angeles Dumbledore’s Army’s first “Dobby’s Sock Drive,” over 1,000 pairs of new socks were collected, which, according to The Midnight Mission is a much needed donation item often forgotten about.

This year The Los Angeles Dumbledore’s Army has sock collection boxes at over a dozen comic book stores throughout Los Angeles County including the famous Meltdown Comics in Hollywood and The Comic Bug in Manhattan Beach. Several of the participating comic book stores are providing special discounts and free gifts with any Dobby’s Sock Drive new sock donation at their stores (list below).

For anyone not familiar with the Harry Potter narrative, Dobby was an enslaved house elf that was only set free by having been accidentally presented with socks by his owner. Dobby, one of the most beloved characters in the series, subsequently became obsessed with socks, hence the name of the charity drive.
