The Gateway Family YMCA Wants You to Take a #SelfieWithSomeoneNew

Social Media Initiative Aimed at Bringing People and Communities Together Launches in Support of “For a better us.” Campaign

Rahway, NJ, October 31, 2017 --(PR.com)-- In the spirit of bringing the community together, The Gateway Family YMCA is excited to announce the launch of a new social media campaign, #SelfieWithSomoneNew, aimed at bringing individuals and communities together in service of a better us. Inspired by the Y’s “Us” national advertising campaign, #SelfieWithSomeoneNew is an opportunity to highlight how the Y uniquely brings people together.

In these divided times, we must continue to bring people together, find common ground and bridge divides. Here in Eastern Union County and Northern Middlesex County, The Gateway Family YMCA knows that this can start with something as simple as striking up a conversation with someone you’ve just met.

This October, the Y is encouraging community members to meet someone new, strike up a conversation and discover what they have in common. Then, take a selfie and post it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #SelfieWithSomeoneNew and tagging @YMCA. Whether it’s a new neighbor down the street, a parent your child’s school or a person you see every day on your commute home the Y hopes people will take a few extra moments to get to know one another in order to build a stronger, more connected community.

“Every day at the Y, we see people of different backgrounds who normally wouldn’t have met, come together, and that is the inspiration for #SelfieWithSomeoneNew,” said Krystal R. Canady, CEO, The Gateway Family YMCA. “Small steps lead to meaningful, lasting change and the Y wants to challenge our community to help build a better us and show that our differences are a source of strength that benefits our community.”

To help connect people, The Gateway Family YMCA is hosting a #SelfieWithSomeoneNew drive at all Branches in Elizabeth, Union and Rahway. During this time, everyone is welcome to come to the Y, take selfies with new friends and learn about how the Y brings all of us together.

Some of the programs and services that The Gateway Family YMCA offers in service of a better us include:
· Before and After School Programs, Summer Day Camp, Power Scholars, Child Care Programs and 7th Grade Initiative
· Group Exercise, Diabetes Prevention Program, LiveSTRONG at the YMCA
· WISE Adult Day Services Program, Togetherhoood Volunteer Program, Housing and Social Services
