Operation Food Search Introduces Afterschool Meal Program

St. Louis non-profit agency to provide "super snack" opportunity to children.

St. Louis, MO, November 09, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Operation Food Search (OFS), a non-profit hunger relief organization, recently launched a new afterschool meal program to qualifying organizations. OFS, through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), will provide nutritious super snacks to fuel the minds and bodies of children at the end of each school day.

These healthy grab and go light meals will include a fruit, vegetable, protein, dairy and whole grain to ensure children have the opportunity to receive a well-balanced meal. The new program will first be introduced at two locations including Lift for Life Academy and Innovative Concepts Academy. Beginning in Jan. of 2018, St. Louis County Library’s Weber Road and Natural Bridge branches, as well as additional partners will offer the afterschool meal program.

To qualify as a site for this service, locations must be a non-profit organization that provides children with enrichment programming outside of school hours. Additional stipulations include staff and volunteers attending annual training, as well as sites being located in an area where the majority of students at the local public school receive free or reduced meal benefits.

“Operation Food Search’s mission is to provide students with an opportunity to be fed after the school bell rings,” said OFS Executive Director Sunny Schaefer. “This program gets kids the food their bodies need to fully participate in after school activities including sports, tutoring, and other enrichment opportunities.”

Founded in 1981, Operation Food Search (OFS) is a hunger relief organization that provides food and nutrition education.
