Nasar, MD, Freehold orthopedic surgeon, reviewed the recent notable advances in joint replacement surgery in his public lecture “Joint Replacement Like Never Before” given at the Freehold Senior Center, Freehold, NJ, at noon on Wednesday, February 20th.

In an hour long presentation, followed by a lively question and open discussion session, Dr Nasar set the scene with a brief historical overview of the developments in total joint replacement techniques and advances since the 1960’s. He then reviewed in detail the 21st century advances in prosthetic implants, their cementless components and how the advent of minimally invasive surgery has spurred the development of navigational systems required for computer assisted surgery. He used actual prosthetic samples, video clips and photos to illustrate the technologies. Video from a recent “first in the Tri-State region,“ fully cementless, total knee replacement surgery, using the powerful Navitrack navigational computer assisted aid, drew gasps and excited comment from the roomful of seniors and visitors. “From a surgeon’s perspective, I can’t speak highly enough of these improved procedures and tools.” Dr Nasar told his attentive audience. “New computer systems allow us to implant the knee, for example, more accurately than before, with alignment dead on.
