National Federation of Paralegal Associations Announces The Justice Champion Award

The Justice Champion Award is in honor of the late Heather Danielle Heyer, a paralegal at the Miller Law Group in Charlottesville, Virginia, for her dedication to the expansion of civil rights, social justice and the expectation that all human beings be treated with dignity and respect. She consistently advocated for those from underserved, disenfranchised and marginalized communities.

Indianapolis, IN, December 01, 2017 --(PR.com)-- The National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (NFPA) announces the establishment of the Justice Champion Award.

Proposed by NFPA leaders and developed by NFPA's Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the Justice Champion Award was established to recognize a practicing paralegal whose conduct, actions and activities demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to diversity and inclusion, as defined in NFPA's Position Statement on Diversity, and in promotion of NFPA's Core Value of supporting unity within the profession.

Heather's sense of conviction and purposeful engagement led her to join demonstrators peacefully protesting against a rally of white nationalists in her hometown of Charlottesville on August 12, 2017 where she was killed.

Justice is the quality of being fair and reasonable. A champion is an advocate and defender for a cause or on behalf of someone else. Heather's legacy strongly embodies both of these principles. She was a tenacious advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion.

In the spirit of inclusion and unity, the Justice Champion Award is open to all practicing paralegals who meet the selection criteria, including non-NFPA members.

Nominees must establish exceptional achievement or long-term commitment to diversity and inclusion through contributions to the community and the paralegal profession, as well as genuine dedication to the advancement of civil and equal rights, civil liberties and human rights.

NFPA is a non-profit professional organization representing more than 8,000 paralegals and is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. NFPA’s Core Purpose is the advancement of the paralegal profession. NFPA promotes a global presence for the paralegal profession and leadership in the legal community.
