Memphis, TN, February 27, 2008 --(PR.com)-- After creating a regional following in the Mid-South, Lisa Akbari looks ahead, with the goal of sharing her knowledge nationwide. Known affectionately as the “Hair Doctor,” Akbari has become a leading authority on hair care for women of color. She has authored two books, created a product line, conducts workshops and contributes to magazines and online health web sites regularly.

“I have two great passions in life: one is helping people and the other is hair care,” said Akbari. “Through my books, articles, products and workshops, I am able to reach the ultimate goal of empowering and informing women how to make the best choices for taking care of their own hair.”

Beginning as a cosmetologist over 30 years ago, Akbari already possessed the skills to care for hair. She stepped out of the salon and into a lab to study complex hair and scalp issues affecting women of color. Her studies led to the top best-selling hair care book, The Black Woman’s Guide to Beautiful Hair, a follow up book, Every Woman’s Guide to Beautiful Hair at Any Age, as well as the development of the Akbari Hair Nutrition System, a naturally formulated product line.

As a board certified trichologist, Akbari is also the founder of The Hair Nutrition and Research Center located in Memphis, Tenn. There, she treats women with extreme hair loss, Alopecia, Short Hair Syndrome and scalp damage. In addition, Akbari and her staff perform strand readings and provide counseling and education.

“Many women suffering from hair loss come to me believing there is nothing they can do about it,” Akbari said. “Most of them don’t know that what is causing the loss a majority of the time can be corrected. Through treatments in my clinic, I see women rediscover their hair and themselves in an entirely new way.”

In the spring, Akbari is planning free seminars in several Southern cities, including: Birmingham, Ala., Nashville, Memphis, Jackson, Tenn., and Little Rock, Ark. For more information, please visit www.lisaakbari.com.
