The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has announced the launch of a new initiative to reduce the carbon footprint in Dubai’s hospitality industry as the sector targets greater environmental sustainability.

Dubai hotels are saving thousands of dollars daily through retrofitting
Hyatt Hotels globally reported having completed nearly 200 energy-efficient projects in 2015, including upgrades in lighting, kitchen and laundry equipment, and HVAC systems. These projects are expected to reduce GHG emissions by over 23,000 metric tons of CO2e annually.

Kempinski Hotel Ajman currently saves US$1,360 a day by recycling water for irrigation. A solar panel installation to heat water saves $5,445 a month in diesel costs.

Novotel Hotel Fujairah retrofit programme includes the HVAC system and the implementation of a wastewater recovery system. The retrofitting initiative will help the hotel save approx 12% on its annual electricity bill, and offset more than 450 tons of CO2.
