MediaWiki is a PHP & MySQL software that extremely resembles Wikipedia. That is because Wikipedia uses MediaWiki. Numerous other wikis around the world also use it to power their websites. The software is optimized to correctly and efficiently handle projects of all sizes clients are specialized in providing support for MediaWiki for many years. They are glad to provide support for European MediaWiki 1.30.0 hosting users with advice and troubleshooting for their clients' website when necessary.

The first version of the software was deployed to serve the needs of the Wikipedia encyclopedia in 2002. Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects continue to define a large part of the requirement set for MediaWiki. The software is optimized to efficiently handle large projects, which can have terabytes of content and hundreds of thousands of hits per second. Because Wikipedia is one of the world's largest websites, achieving scalability through multiple layers of caching and database replication has been a major concern for developers.

MediaWiki 1.30 is the latest release of MediaWiki. Consult the release-notes file for the full list of changes. It was deployed on Wikimedia Foundation wikis through incremental "wmf"-branches starting on 9 May 2017. The 1.30.0 stable release was released on 12 December 2017. The "C.UTF-8" locale should be used for $wgShellLocale, if available, to avoid unexpected behavior when code uses locale-sensitive string comparisons. For example, the Scribunto extension considers "bar" < "Foo" in most locales since it ignores case. $wgShellLocale now affects LC_ALL rather than only LC_CTYPE. See documentation of $wgShellLocale for details. $wgShellLocale is now applied for all requests. wfInitShellLocale() is deprecated and a no-op, as it is no longer needed.

Added the ability to search for contributions within an IP range at Special:Contributions. References to revisions made by IPs are stored in the ip_changes table to make querying for ranges more efficient. Added the 'ChangeTagsAllowedAdd' hook, enabling extensions to allow software- specific tags to be added by users. Added the 'ParserOptionsRegister' hook to allow extensions to register additional parser options.
