British businessman, Mr. Jan Telensky, has joined Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife, Sarah, in honouring and rewarding kids who have made a significant contribution to their community. Mr. Telensky is a founder sponsor of the award scheme, known as YOPEY (Young People of the Year) was at Number 10 Downing Street for the presentation of the first national YOPEY awards.

Luton, United Kingdom, February 28, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Mr. Jan Telensky, CEO of the UK’s leading IT distance learning company `SkillsTrain’ (www.skillstrain-uk.com), has joined the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah at 10 Downing Street, honouring and acknowledging achievements of youngsters from across the UK.

The youngsters had all been nominated for a YOPEY (Young People of the Year Award) in a nationwide competition, run by top circulating British women’s magazine, `Take a Break.’

Mr. Telensky, whose Luton based business empire extends right across Europe, was present as a main sponsor and benefactor of the YOPEYs, founded by former national newspaper journalist, Tony Gearing.

He donated a first prize of a home learning accounts course to Becky Brown, mother of top award winner Scarlett Brown from South Benfleet, Essex, who overcame leukemia to tirelessly motivate other suffering children and raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. The SkillsTrain boss also spontaneously donated a holiday for the family at his award winning eco-spa and waterpark, AquaCity resort Slovakia (www.aquacityresort.com), built in his wife’s home town of Poprad, which realises his vision of an affordable, `green’ holiday destination.

The YOPEY awards are specifically to recognise the achievements of young people and the contribution they make to their communities, often in the face of adversity. The scheme was originated to counter the many negative press reports of youngsters as drug-taking, violent hoodies. One of the first ever YOPEYs took place in Luton and South Bedfordshire, sponsored by Mr. Telensky’s IT and office skills distance learning college, SkillsTrain.

Jan Telensky said of his VIP morning “Kids are our future and it’s essential that we recognise and reward role models in the community. I’m very glad that this extremely worthwhile scheme has reached the attention of the Prime Minister. It was an honour to go to Number 10 to meet the kids and meeting the PM and his wife was absolutely delightful.”
