The American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) Announces the Appointment of Dr. Charles E. Drum, MPA, JD, PhD as AAHD Inaugural Visiting Scholar

Rockville, MD, January 19, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Charles E. Drum, MPA, JD, PhD, has been named the inaugural Visiting Scholar at the American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD). Dr. Drum is a nationally and internationally known scholar in disability and health, particularly in health disparities, health promotion, and health care access. Among other accomplishments, Dr. Drum was the lead editor and authored several chapters in the first disability and public health textbook (jointly published by the American Public Health Association and the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities), lead the development of the first national guidelines on health promotion programs for people with disabilities, and developed the first valid and reliable tool for advocates, researchers, and clinic managers to measure the accessibility of health clinics.

“Dr. Drum provides a unique combination of respect for and awareness of the lived experience of disability, extensive research experience, and an untiring commitment to social change,” said Roberta Carlin, JD, Executive Director of AAHD. “Although he is known for his scholarship – including authoring over 100 publications - it is his commitment to advocacy and education, as well as scholarship, that provides an excellent fit to be the first Visiting Scholar at the AAHD,” said Ms. Carlin.

Dr. Drum said, “I have always valued the transformative impact AAHD is making through its research, education, public awareness, and advocacy. I am delighted and honored to be given the opportunity to serve as AAHD’s inaugural Visiting Scholar and hope that this is the beginning of an ongoing program at AAHD.”

Dr. Drum will focus on producing publications for AAHD on a range of disability and health topics, providing technical assistance on disability and health initiatives, and assisting in various grant and contract opportunities.
