Rosa Kilgore Announced as the Artist in Residence for March at Sanctuary on Camelback Resort

Sanctuary Resort's Artist in Residence for the month of March will be jewelry artist Rosa Kilgore. There will be an opening and two workshops offered.

Scottsdale, AZ, February 26, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Rosa Kilgore will be the fifth Artist in Residence this season at the beautiful Sanctuary on Camelback Resort. This renowned metalsmith jewelry artist’s work will be featured at the resort and will run through the end of March. On Thursday March 8, 2018 the Sanctuary on Camelback will host “Sunset Cocktails with the featured Artist Rosa Kilgore.” The Sunset Artist Reception will take place from 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Paradise Views Terrace. In-house guests and the local community can meet Kilgore while enjoying the spectacular sunset and dramatic setting over light fare and wine.

Kilgore is from a family of artists, art collectors, and gallerists. She began art classes and workshops at an early age while living in London as a child. She has garnered national awards in jewelry making while attending The Orme School and DePaul University. Her creative drives led her to metalsmithing while living in Los Angeles, California, living for a time in Santa Fe, NM and then back home to Arizona, where her family has been for generations. Influenced by other jewelers, growing up watching her uncle Jesse Monongye make exquisite jewelry, as well as her mother Linda Margaret Kilgore, a renowned steel sculptor. Kilgore has always been drawn to the medium of metal eventually studying casting and fabrication techniques with a Navajo silversmith, Dorothy Jeffrey.

“A trained silversmith, most of my pieces are first fabricated in silver and then molded for casting.” She often incorporates freshwater (cultured) pearls (chosen for their imperfect shapes and earthy, natural colors), along with many semi-precious stones such as garnet, amethyst, American turquoise, pyrite, lava, and more. She uses the lost wax casting method, combined with other ancient and modern techniques, creating textured sterling silver and ancient bronze jewelry. Kilgore maintains a green studio, from avoiding the use of toxic chemicals, uses recycled sterling silver and recycles her scrap metals, and buying locally sourced equipment to always being environmentally conscious. “Taking my inspiration from the world around me, I am inspired most by textures and not interested in the perfect, preferring to ‘scar’ the metal with hammer and anvil,” states Kilgore. Her jewelry is sold in galleries and fine boutiques in Washington, New Mexico, Texas, Montana, and Arizona. For more about this talented artist visit RosaKilgore.com.
