The Collaborative Family Law Council of Wisconsin is a statewide association of lawyers, mental health professionals, and financial advisors, who work together to learn, practice, and promote the collaborative process for problem solving and the peaceful resolution of family law issues.

The collaborative process is for divorce matters as well as for paternity issues, legal separations, annulments, pre- or post-nuptial agreements, and dissolution of non-marital and same-sex relationships. It encompasses all aspects of the divorce process including: child custody and placement, property valuation and division, child support, maintenance, taxes, and insurance.

In contrast to traditional litigation, collaborative practice promotes cooperation among parties rather than confrontation in the courtroom. With this process, parties have a shared goal of reaching a settlement that meets the needs of both parties and their children. Parties retain privacy and control in a process focused on creative problem solving and long-term solutions. The end result is a more efficient, targeted, and productive way to resolve disputes.
