Marlborough Receives $15,000 State Grant for Downtown Development

Massachusetts Downtown Initiative grant to pay for wayfinding and branding in downtown Marlborough, MA.

Marlborough, MA, March 23, 2018 --(PR.com)-- The City of Marlborough has received a $15,000 Massachusetts Downtown Initiative (MDI) technical assistance program grant, which will be used to develop a branding and wayfinding strategy for the downtown area.

Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito announced the grant funding during an award ceremony held at the Marlborough Community Development Authority yesterday. In total, 19 Massachusetts communities received $285,000 in MDI grants, during the event.

The MDI program makes grant awards of $15,000 to communities to help them pay for technical assistance in the form of workshops, programs, and professional consultant services, as part of a holistic approach to downtown revitalization. Since 2015, the Baker-Polito Administration has awarded $725,000 to more than 25 communities across the Commonwealth.

“We are thankful to the Baker-Polito Administration for their continued support of Marlborough’s downtown,” said Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant. “In 2015, we received MassWorks funding to reconstruct East Main Street. Now, this grant award through the Massachusetts Downtown Initiative for branding and wayfinding will enable us to continue making Marlborough’s downtown a destination for residents and visitors alike.”

“With the new businesses and amenities that are in the works or have already opened in downtown Marlborough, the area is well on its way to revitalization,” said Marlborough Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Meredith Harris. “The MDI technical assistance grant will allow us to build on the current momentum and develop a really cohesive and vibrant downtown that, we hope, residents will be proud of and visitors will flock to.”
