)-- How hard do you think it would be to create 1000 paintings in one year? This is the challenge that Artist Grace Divine created for herself in 2017. All of these paintings were created to raise awareness to 100 humanitarian causes that included causes like finding a cure for cancer, diabetes and autism, finding a way to heal mental illness, depression and suicide, helping nature, the seas, the land, the atmosphere, raising alarm to inhumane treatment and begging for compassion for animals around the earth, and many many others. Incredibly, Grace Divine did complete her challenge with more than a 1000 paintings completed in 2017.
Not part of her challenged however, but something she undertook as an extended part of her project was the creation of 100 books to cover each cause of which she has now 50% completed. In addition, in early 2018, finding herself with such a large number of original paintings, she decided that she would like donate 100 paintings, one at a time, to individual charities who reached out to her, in order to help them raise funds for their causes. And then one thing led to another and in April 2018, after seeing the documentary Kusama- Infinity, on the life of famed artist Yoshio Kusama, Grace Divine decided to create what she then coined as a “Speed Documentary” of her Challenge 2017, a project she has titled “1000 Paintings.” In this documentary, which she plans to make in a speedy, natural and spontaneous fashion in which she will have people interview her about her work, she will count the1000 paintings, and answer questions about the work and what inspired her to do them.
