Oscar/Emmy Winning Makeup Legend Michael Westmore is May 16 Guest of Larry "Dr. Trek" Nemecek's Spring Open House for Portal 47, a Star Trek Fan's Virtual Backstage Pass

To open up the monthly highlight of his Portal 47 fan experience for Star Trek fans, Larry "Dr. Trek" Nemecek invites all fans to register for one or two virtual, free and global "open house" guest nights a year - attend live, watch the evening online, and pre-submit questions. On May 16 at 7 pm Pacific, storied Hollywood and Star Trek makeup legend Michael Westmore is the guest for an hour or more.

Los Angeles, CA, May 15, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Michael Westmore, whose alien makeups through 18 years of Star Trek series and films won him of 5 of 9 Emmy Awards alongside his 1985 Oscar for Mask, is the guest May 16 for a virtual Spring Open House from Portal 47, the monthly Trek backstage deep-dive created by Larry “Dr. Trek” Nemecek.

“Once or twice a year, we like to open the Portal to Trekfans everywhere and share our biggest monthly live experience, our Guest Telebriefing, with a major Trek creative in the spotlight,” says Nemecek.

"And no one has more insights and stories of that amazing Trek run that Mike - who’s also just about the 'nicest guy in Hollywood'" he adds. "He really does care about the fans and the show, and always has.”

The virtual live event at 7 pm Pacific on Wednesday, May 16, is open to any Trek fans anywhere free of charge - joining in by phone at minimum, or via online link to get the full visual program. Fans just need to sign up at Nemecek's namesake website to “grab a seat,” get the access details, and even learn out how to pre-submit questions that Nemecek will pose in their name.

He also promises some news and surprises for the audience on May 16 as well.

Westmore, inheritor of the family legacy that saw every major studio makeup department headed by his uncles during Hollywood’s Golden Era, was most recently a mentor on the final 10 seasons of SyFy’s Face Off makeup challenge series. He and his Trek crew won Emmies for The Next Generation’s “Conspiracy” and “Cost of Living,” Deep Space Nine’s “Captive Pursuit” and “Distant Voices” and Voyager’s “Threshold.” He was nominated for 19 more Trek Emmys, plus an Oscar nom for First Contact and two other films.

Along the way, Westmore updated the Klingons, Andorians and Tellarites, developed Data’s iconic look, and developed the Cardassians, Ferengi, Bajorans, Talaxians, Ocampa, Jem’Hadar, Vorta, Kazon, Rigellians, and many, many more.

Westmore is the latest high-profile guest of Portal 47, which Nemecek founded in 2015 to offers “an insider’s guide to more in-depth Trek” with 10 various features and two live annual opportunities. Typically for guest night, the focus is on the crew and creatives of all stripes, who seldom if ever get to share their stories with fans - and there are so many.

"We like to say Portal 47 is for fans who have no idea how much Star Trek they have no idea about,” adds Nemecek, a 25-year veteran of the franchise. That includes archives, discounts, and other features - including the Ask Dr. Trek Roundtable, live and online twice a month too, as well as guest night. The live events are all recorded, as well.

Nemecek, author of the classic Star Trek: Next Generation Companion and Stellar Cartography maps/book set and longtime Trek editor, is host of the new Roddenberry THE TREK FILES podcast and has been seen in numerous other documentaries and DVD features. He leads and shares with fans at conventions worldwide, is producing of The Con of Wrath documentary, and was twice seen as Star Trek Continues’ Dr. McCoy while serving as creative consultant. He is also an outreach spokesman for the non-profit Enterprise in Space program.
