KIB Teams with Surti Leuva Patidar Samaj Youth for Cleanup - SLPS Service Project at Sam Houston Trail Park

Irving, TX, May 23, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) offers a variety of ways for people to give back and to show their community pride. For the youth members of Surti Leuva Patidar Samaj (SLPS), that meant spending their morning in a service project with Keep Irving Beautiful. On Saturday, May 19, the group gathered at Sam Houston Trail Park on the North Campion Trails for a cleanup. There were thirty-three youth and adult sponsors, who were joined by seven volunteers from Dallas County, for a total of forty, who gave a combined 100 hours of service at the park. They set out in groups to collect both trash and recyclables, with the goal of keeping it from reaching the nearby Elm Fork of Trinity River. KIB staff weighed the materials, and Parks Department staff collected it at the end of the day.

SLPS is a nonprofit faith-based organization which provides a forum for “meeting, facilitating and encouraging religious observance, sharing ideas, providing cultural programs, and endeavoring toward community advancement.”

“Keep Irving Beautiful is always open to working with all groups who want to help the community,” said KIB Board Member Margie Stipes, “and it was a pleasure for us to collaborate on this project with the SLPS youth. It’s always encouraging when we see young people take the initiative to reach out to us to find out how they can be of service. Several of the SLPS members had participated in last year’s Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off, so it was nice to welcome them back, as well as meet new volunteers.”
