KIB Teams with Wells Fargo Auto Volunteers for Tree Planting Project at Sam Houston Trail Park

Irving, TX, May 26, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Employee volunteers from Wells Fargo Auto spent Wednesday, May 23, in a service project with Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) at Sam Houston Trail Park. The nine volunteers gave 36 hours of their time by planting a mix of 26 native Texas trees (bur oak, bald cypress, and cedar elm) along the Campion Trails. This project was made possible by a generous donation from Verizon, which was used to purchase the trees.

The Wells Fargo Auto volunteers were first given instructions by City of Irving Parks staff about the proper planting techniques, including preparing the root ball, measuring the optimum depth for placement of the trees, and ensuring that the trees would be stable once they were in the ground. They formed teams of three, each with a Parks staff member to guide them, and began planting the trees, which were placed alongside the trail and will be enjoyed by the many park visitors for years to come.

KIB Board Member Scott Wilson, who also serves on the city’s Tree Board, had this to say about the day: “A project like this is representative of what KIB does – engaging people in activities which will enhance the community. This is a collaboration with two different companies with offices here in Irving. First, we have Verizon, who made a financial contribution which allowed us to purchase the trees. Then we have Wells Fargo Auto, whose employees did the actual planting. To add to the picture, Sam Houston Trail was the location of another planting project last fall by UPS volunteers through a Keep America Beautiful/UPS Foundation grant, so KIB and the Irving corporate community have really made an impactful difference here at the Campion Trails.”
