Walford Student Wins Milk Bottle Label Competition

Oswestry, United Kingdom, May 26, 2018 --(PR.com)-- North Shropshire College (NSC) has recently installed a milk vending machine and geodesic dome at the Walford Campus adjacent to the farm. The milk vending machine will offer pasteurised fresh milk to the public and it will be available to vend from Sunday 10th June which is also Open Farm Sunday.

The machine has undergone rigorous health and safety testing with public health to ensure that legal requirements are met. Milk will be able to be purchased from Sunday 10th June onwards. The public will be able to come and get milk 7 days per week between the hours of 6am and 10pm. The machine accepts coins and also contactless card payments so it’s really easy to use.

The College felt strongly about not purchasing plastic containers for sale and opted for a glass milk bottle that the public can buy and re-use. People can also bring with them their own containers.

The College’s glass bottles will be branded with our very own labels. Phil Ridley Project Manager from NSC commented, ‘We wanted to encourage students from across the College to get involved with the project, so created a competition open to all to come up with a label design. They offered a Kindle Fire as a winning prize.

Lizzie Robinson, a year one Level 3 Animal Management student at the College was told during tutorial about the label competition and as she loves drawing she thought she’d give it a go. There were 26 competition entries in total, and Lizzie created the winning design. Phil goes on to say, "We really liked Lizzie’s design, it incorporates the dairy cow, the milk bottles and the name ‘Walford Farm’ and the bunting just made it a more appealing design overall."

Lizzie won a Kindle Fire and the kudos of having her design on the labels, she commented, "I was really pleased one of my designs was chosen, it’s great when your artwork gets noticed. I’ve not really won a competition before so I was chuffed to win the prize which I am going to give to my Grandma and to see my label on the bottles at Walford will be great."

The College will be open on Sunday 10th June from 11am-3pm as part of the national event, Open Farm Sunday. The College is teaming up with Moor Farm in Baschurch to offer visitors a wide range of activities that are fun and educational. Parking is based at Moor Farm and a tractor and trailer ride will take visitors between both Moor Farm and Walford Farm.
