NK Patent Law Opens New Office in Charlotte

Third North Carolina Location for Intellectual Property Firm Helping Clients Protect Intellectual Property Assets

Charlotte, NC, June 01, 2018 --(PR.com)-- NK Patent Law, helping clients protect their intellectual property (IP) assets, has opened a new office in Charlotte.

The boutique, IP-only firm, headquartered in Raleigh with an office in Winston-Salem, has experienced rapid growth since opening in 2013.

“After spending several years of my career in Charlotte, I am excited to be establishing a permanent office in the Queen City to better serve our existing clients in the area, and expand our presence to respond to needs of the business community,” Justin Nifong, NK Patent Law co-founder said.

According to Nifong, the Charlotte business community has unique needs differentiating it from other entrepreneurial hubs throughout the state, but there are common threads for young startups and established companies alike when it comes to leveraging IP assets as a competitive advantage,

“Our attorneys get that, both from a legal and entrepreneurial perspective,” he said.

The new office is located inside the 485 loop at 9700 Research Drive, Suite 111.

The firm has always maintained a strong presence in Charlotte, serving several clients that span decades in the Queen City, along with an active group of startups. NK Patent Law maintains a scholarship with the UNC-Charlotte engineering department where Nifong attended engineering school.

Ani Agrawal, one of the attorneys working in the Charlotte office, said the business community has been receptive and encouraging to the entrepreneurial-focused IP firm.

“We are excited to be involved in organizations like the PDMA, Ventureprise, NC IDEA, BIG, Flywheel, Start Charlotte, and Pitch Breakfast, as well as working with business attorneys in the area who are looking for responsive, business savvy IP attorneys to serve their clients,” he said.

Agrawal focuses his practice on preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and in foreign countries. He works with the NK Patent Law trademarks and IP agreements groups, and also renders patentability, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions and counsels clients on a variety of intellectual property issues.

He will be joined by attorney Joseph Shin, an experienced patent attorney with a focus on preparing and prosecuting patent applications in a wide range of technologies, including biomedical devices, pharmaceutical compounds, biotechnology, mobile devices, telecommunications, and software. In addition, he renders patentability, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions.

Also joining the Charlotte office is Dr. Brian MacDonald, who has been with the firm since inception. He has a Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics and brings fifteen years of experience to the firm after entering the profession as an Examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
