Book About Christian Marriage by Lance Bell Earns Award from Dog Ear Publishing

Dog Ear Publishing has given its Award of Literary Excellence to a new book written for Christian men and women seeking to learn more about marriage and God’s purpose for it.

South Elgin, IL, June 07, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Lance Bell couldn’t be happier that his book “The Marriage You Do Not Deserve” has earned the Dog Ear Publishing Award of Literary Excellence.

“I was quite excited to hear about the award, especially when considering this is my first book,” he said.

The book is the product of 20 years of Christian marriage research, wisdom and teaching. “The book is written for Christian women and men looking forward to marriage, or those already married, seeking to learn more about God’s institution,” Bell said.

He urged anyone who is struggling to read the book, especially anyone “struggling in any capacity in their marriage who wants a little clarity as to what marriage is all about,” adding that the book offers wisdom and “clear, concise things to do to get on track first with yourself and then with your partner.”

Bell and his partner – his wife, Lori – have led marriage Sunday school classes, marriage workshops, retreats and couples’ community groups for 20 years. They also lead the marriage ministry of Christ Community Church in St. Charles, Ill.

“After 20 years of marriage ministry, there was a calling to get to collected wisdom out of gray matter, into a conversation piece worthy of contemplation and conversation,” Bell said. “The calling certainly came from God, as I am not ‘a writer’ and didn’t find joy in the process.”

The process, however, led to “The Marriage You Do Not Deserve,” which is more than just a book. “In many ways, the book is a reflection of the marriage Lori, and I share and enjoy,” he said. “Our marriage grows deeper and stronger each year, and it happens in large part because we live the advice found in the book.”

Lori’s contribution to the project included questions for wives that appear throughout the book, as well as moral support for Lance, even as she was not sure he would finish it.

The book resonated with Dog Ear Publishing editorial staff, which awarded it the company’s Award of Literary Excellence. The managing editor, editorial services manager and the publisher review recommendations. Winning books include the award logo on their covers.

Dog Ear editor Reba Hilbert had this to say about the book: “This is a surprisingly succinct, smart read for any couple, married or contemplating marriage. It’s clear and ringing with excellent advice!”

Bell is proud of his book. “I believe I found success in providing intentionally offensive, paradigm-shifting material, balanced with clear and concise logic and reasoning regarding marriage and its purpose,” he said. “I’ve had people read this book and say ‘It’s changed my marriage and changed my life.’”

Writing the book, which took tons of time and effort, required “four major revisions and feedback from a lot of friends and pastors” over four years, he said. “I am a ‘visionary leader,’ which runs askew from sitting down, organizing and writing out experiences and thoughts.”

Bell would like the “whole world” to know about the book to make an impact, he said. He’s already writing a workbook to accompany it based on a series of six lessons and would like to incorporate both into a program that could be given in a workshop or small seminar.

Now that he’s gotten a taste of being an author, Bell has no plans to slow down.H e said he’d like to write a book for people raising children, especially given the experiences he and Lori have had as state-licensed foster parents for Illinois, as well as a leadership book.
