Joe and Son’s Olive Oils and The Dessert Spot at Toffee to Go Partner to Celebrate Ice Cream Month

Tampa, FL, July 12, 2018 --(PR.com)-- To celebrate National Ice Cream month, two Bay to Bay businesses are teaming up to bring a fun promotion to South Tampa. From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, Joe and Son's Olive Oils, 3204 W. Bay to Bay Boulevard, and The Dessert Spot at Toffee to Go, 3251 W. Bay to Bay Boulevard, will offer samples and deals on ice cream topped with flavored aged balsamic vinegars. Customers will receive coupons for each business as well as an additional 15 percent off all balsamic vinegars at Joe and Son’s.

If you think ice cream and vinegar are an unlikely pairing, think again! The fruity tartness of the balsamic is the perfect complement to the creamy sweetness of the ice cream. On Saturday, Joe and Son’s customers will be able to try balsamic flavors, such as peach, raspberry, dark cherry, fig, tangerine, espresso, and even chocolate, served over vanilla ice cream supplied by The Dessert Spot to experience this combination for themselves.

Andrea Messina Gebbia, owner of Joe and Son’s Olive Oils, says, “Aged balsamic vinegar is a great pantry ingredient to keep on hand, because it allows you to turn simple, familiar ingredients into something outstanding. A light drizzle over ice cream creates a deliciously unexpected dessert.”

All of the balsamic vinegars at Joe and Son’s Olive Oils are imported from Modena, Italy, and are aged at least 12 years. To make these vinegars, sweet white Trebbiano grape pressings are boiled down to dark syrup, which is placed into oaken kegs, along with a vinegar "mother," to age. Over the years, it graduates to smaller and smaller kegs of different woods until it is ready. The vinegar is then naturally infused with fruit, herbs, or spices to achieve its signature flavor.

In addition to being a delightful ice cream topping, aged balsamic vinegar is known for its health benefits. A 2015 study by the Journal of Diabetes Research found that vinegar helped to regulate blood sugar. Chocolate sauce just can’t compete!

President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month in 1984, and he also named the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day. In the proclamation, President Regan wrote, “I call upon the people of the United States to observe these events with appropriate ceremonies and activities." This weekend, Joe and Son’s Olive Oils and The Dessert Spot at Toffee to Go are doing just that.

Besides celebrating ice cream, this promotion has the goal of generating business and awareness for businesses on Bay to Bay Boulevard. Most recently, they were in the news for advocating for a more pedestrian-friendly Bay to Bay.
