Swiss International Scientific School in Dubai (SISD), today announced new changes ahead of the 2018-19 academic year. To embark on its fourth year of operation and continue its journey towards becoming a school of the future, Norbert Foerster has been appointed as the new Head of School. With over three decades of numerous educational leadership positions, specifically in Swiss schools with international and bilingual backgrounds, Norbert is the perfect fit to take the reins of SISD’s future.

SISD has also officially announced the opening of its boarding facilities for girls where students from 6th until 11th grade (grade 12 opening in 2019 pending KHDA approval) have access to all campus facilities and the option between full-time, weekly and flexi boarding. The newly furnished boarding facilities have four floors with 14 en-suite rooms, double and single, a fully equipped pantry as well as a tutor apartment on each floor. Each boarding house also has a spacious community room full of things to do for when the students have time to relax. The boys’ boarding house was inaugurated in September 2017 and currently welcomes 15 students from 10 different nationalities.

Having recently been awarded the patronage of the Canton du Valais, one of 26 in Switzerland, SISD is also laying the foundation for the introduction for the Swiss Baccalaureate in the UAE and the wider region. With the exception of medical studies, students with a Swiss Baccalaureate Diploma will not be required to take admissions exams to gain entry into Swiss Universities, Federal Institutes of Technology and further education courses. The bilingual Swiss Baccalaureate at SISD is a seven-year German/English programme, starting in Grade 6 and leading to graduation at the end of Grade 12 with the Swiss Baccalaureate Diploma.

Norbert Foerster, new Head of School at SISD said, “I’m delighted to take over the leadership and further development of SISD into a school of the future in a country that puts so much emphasis on education. I’m especially delighted to kick off the new academic year with upgraded facilities to ensure the development and wellbeing of the students. The introduction of the Swiss Baccalaureate is also an added value to the rich programme we already offer. Last but not least, the school has achieved a huge milestone with the official opening of the girls’ boarding which puts us on the right path to become the leading regional boarding school in the region.”

Entering in its fourth year of operation, SISD is currently home to 1200 day and boarding students from over 60 nationalities.
