)-- Omachron Plastics Inc. is proud to announce the addition of Cellulose Acetate Butyrate (CAB) – more commonly known as butyrate – to Plastic-Block™ product offerings.
CAB is great for many applications because it has a rubbery soft feel - making it perfect for pens, tools, handles, jewelry, and touch points on a product. It is transparent, quite averse to absorption of moisture, and has excellent impact strength. Additionally, CAB is resistant to both ultraviolet (UV) rays and outdoor weathering making it an ideal choice for items that are required to sit outside for extended periods of time such as door handles or parts of patio furniture.
CAB is part of the cellulosic family that generally has good strength, toughness, and can be finished to a high surface gloss. It has good chemical resistance, excellent clarity, and a nice spark when polished and can be readily painted.
CAB can be bonded with methyl methacrylate and other plastic adhesives. While resistant to many household chemicals, caution must be taken as CAB can be damaged by contact with alcohol, alkalis, paint removers, and acetones.
