TeleSense Announces Formation of New Agricultural Advisory Board

IoT AgTech Pioneer Welcomes Four Experts on Grain Drying, Handling and Storage

Sunnyvale, CA, October 31, 2018 --(PR.com)-- TeleSense, Inc., a Silicon Valley innovator providing Internet-of-Things (IoT) solutions for food safety and storage, announced today the formation of a new agricultural advisory board featuring grain industry experts Dr. Kenneth J. Hellevang of North Dakota State University, Dr. Digvir S. Jayas of the University of Manitoba, Dr. Seth L. Naeve of University of Minnesota and Bobby Pelz Jr., co-founder of McDonald & Pelz Global Commodities and founder of Trailhead Capital LLC.

“These are the thought-leaders in the grain industry and it was very important for us to be able to expand our advisory board with experts who have significant research, knowledge and reach,” said Naeem Zafar, founder and CEO of TeleSense. “Adding grain experts, along with our other advisors who are experts in machine-learning, IoT and AI, creates a powerful board to guide TeleSense in becoming the technology leader to reduce post-harvest loss”, continued Zafar.

Dr. Hellevang is a Professor and Extension Engineer at North Dakota State University, and was recently honored by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers as their 2018 Professional Engineer of the Year. His research areas include grain drying, handling and storage, as well as Post Harvest Engineering programs through the University Extension. “The industry will benefit from wireless sensing and advanced algorithms, and I have been encouraged by what TeleSense is doing to improve the quality of our food supply,” said Dr. Hellevang.

Dr. Jayas has authored or co-authored over 900 technical articles in scientific journals, conference proceedings and books dealing with grain storage, drying, handling and quality monitoring. He is a Distinguished Professor and Vice-President (Research and International) at the University of Manitoba, as well as a former Senior Canada Research Chair in stored-grain ecosystems. “Using advanced algorithms to accurately model the temperature and humidity profiles within a grain silo can be extremely useful, and we are working to bring out some solutions that can be easily deployed using TeleSense,” said Dr. Jayas.

Dr. Naeve is an Extension Agronomist and Associate Professor in the Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics at the University of Minnesota. A Ph.D. graduate of Iowa State University’s Crop Production and Physiology program, Dr. Naeve now focuses on soybean yield and seed quality enhancement, University Extension programs covering soybean production and expansion of international markets for bulk commodity and food-grade soybean products.

Bobby Pelz, Jr. co-founded McDonald & Pelz Global Commodities in 1982 as an independent, global grain and oilseeds brokerage firm. Now considered the world’s largest cash grains broker with 15 offices in 11 countries, McDonald & Pelz is involved in physical trade of agricultural commodities via truck, rail, barge, vessel and container as well as a derivatives group brokering futures products, with a customer base that includes all major managers of grain and oilseed supply chains across the globe. In 2017 Bobby founded Trailhead Capital LLC, an independently held investment group with the objective of exploring new business opportunities and ventures within the global Food/Ag space, focusing on technology and agricultural land. “We are very excited to see TeleSense enter the grain supply chain market with cutting edge Silicon Valley technology,” said Bobby Pelz. “We look forward to helping TeleSense become a major player in the efficient management of grain storage and transportation.”
