)-- Mirus Promotions is celebrating their 10th anniversary. Mirus is Latin for “extraordinary,” and there’s no better word to describe the growth the company has seen within its first decade in operation.
“When I started the business, I knew what I wanted the company to stand for, and I knew the type of people I wanted to work for us,” said CEO Julie Seal-Gaustad. “I wanted to continue to engage people and connect them with brands through positive, educational face-to-face experiences.”
The San Diego-based field marketing company is a boutique agency with a large network, catering to an extensive list of over 100 brands nationwide.
“Our primary business started in the natural food, non-alcoholic beverage, and alcoholic beverage categories,” said Seal-Gaustad. “One of our main objectives over the past few years was to offer our services and support to new industries. We recently started supporting vitamin and technology companies in their marketing goals.”
Mirus is in the business of building brands through meaningful and engaging face-to-face experiences. The company provides extraordinary, personalized, professional representation and unrivaled service to companies and brands at fundamental consumer points of contact, amplifying exposure for their products and services and improved awareness and sales, according to the company’s website. Seal-Gaustad said the business grew organically until 2015, which is when she realized she needed help in organizing and implementing the ideas and vision for growth that she really wanted for the company.
“I got connected with Karie Kaufmann of ActionCOACH at the end of 2015. The following year, business doubled,” said Seal-Gaustad. “Year over year, we doubled in size – we even were named #26 out of the top 100 fastest growing private companies in San Diego by the San Diego Business Journal in 2018. We also won ‘Fastest Growing Company’ at the 2018 Business Excellence Forum and Awards.”
Mirus Promotions, Inc. comprises a staff of 11 within its all-female internal team, and over 2,000 field marketing team members nationwide, according to the company’s running document of professional achievements.
Mirus believes in hiring, developing and nurturing efficient and dependable leaders through training opportunities, example-setting and lifelong learning, according to the company’s website.
“As a female entrepreneur, it has been very empowering because I’ve been grateful enough to have other women come to me to seek advice about running a business,” said Seal-Gaustad. “I love being able to support other women, as well as men, in their entrepreneurial ventures and have that camaraderie and community.”
The agency has an evolving list of clients that keeps them constantly striving toward progress and success. According to the website, Mirus represents companies like Organicgirl and Boston Beer Company.
“Since beginning our partnership more than five years ago, we have seen a lift across all of our multiple products after each promotion that continues for weeks,” said Sarah H., the national brand manager for Organicgirl.
“We started using the services of Mirus Promotions to elevate our brands and engage with more consumers,” said Andrew F., national account manager for Boston Beer Company. “The key determinant for working with Mirus is that we trust that our brands would be handled and represented consistently across all markets and all events with the utmost of professionalism.”
The Mirus website lists six core values that are the driving force of the company’s success: pursue growth and learning; teamwork and family spirit; leadership; open, honest and ongoing communication; commitment and determination; and consistency and efficiency.
According to their blog, Mirus Promotions strives to uphold these core values in everything they do, and their goal is to make a positive impact that transcends a strictly business-oriented focus by giving back to those in need. Over the past six years, Mirus has supported UC San Diego’s Luau and Longboard Invitational, benefitting Moores Cancer Center. Additionally, the company partners with non-profit organization Buy1Give1, matching their number of global impact donations to their number of monthly brand activations. Since February of 2017, Mirus has made 11,932 social giving impacts through this partnership, including providing days of clean water to communities in Africa and days of bicycle transportation to children in Cambodia so they can get to school.
Within the previous decade, Mirus Promotions has blossomed into a force of progress and positivity in the marketing community, accumulating a myriad of awards and recognition from organizations such as San Diego Business Journal, Business Excellence Forum, Stevie American Business Awards, and more. Seal-Gaustad said the company plans to celebrate the last decade throughout 2019 with an anniversary celebration party later this year and continued growth.
“There’s a few different goals that I have for the company,” said Seal-Gaustad. “The vision that I see is to be the number one trusted field marketing agency in the U.S. – to get to number one, it’s just constantly looking at how we do business, how we can get better."
