The award was created by NSCS’ student leadership body, the National Leadership Council. The award recognizes one outstanding undergraduate among the NSCS membership for his or her academic and extracurricular achievements.

“We picked Jin Lee to be the Exemplary Scholar because she was overall the best candidate,” said Katie Mize, Vice President for Recognition. “We were impressed with the quality of her answers, both on the video and in the application. She has outstanding grades and many academic honors, together with lots of service and leadership roles, including in her chapter of NSCS.”

Judges for the award included several members of the Leadership Council, as well as Stephen Saltzburg, a professor of Law at The George Washington University. Judging criteria included essays, a video about the applicant and a recommendation letter.
