Perle Launches High-Power PoE Media Converters

72 Copper to Fiber Converters with IEEE 802.3bt compliant Hi-PoE 100W PSE power injection.

Nashville, TN, April 12, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Perle Systems, a global provider of Fiber to Ethernet and advanced Device Networking Hardware, today announced the release of IEEE 802.3bt compliant High Power PoE Fiber Media Converters.

Driven by the need to connect power hungry IoT devices, IEEE has introduced the 802.3bt standard, also called High Power PoE (Hi-PoE), that can deliver up to 100 watts of power at the Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) port while also increasing PoE signaling capabilities for improved efficiency. This new standard replaces all pre-standard proprietary solutions such as UPoE, 4PPoE, PoE++, UltraPoE and 4 Pair PoE. In addition, it is fully backwards compatible with the existing IEEE 802.3af PoE and 802.3at PoE+ standards.

The new Perle S-1110HP Hi-PoE Media Converters are classified as PSEs. While using standard UTP cables that carry Ethernet data, Perle Hi-PoE Media Converters supply up to 100W power to Powered Devices (PDs) that support the 802.3bt standard. The S-1110HP Hi-PoE Media Converters feature single or dual 10/100/1000Base-T RJ45 ports to power one or two PD’s, such as pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) security cameras with heaters, LED lighting in building management, and 802.11ax/ac wireless access points.

The S-1110HP Hi-PoE Media Converters are fully 802.3bt compliant allowing support for Dual-Signature and Single-Signature PDs, in classes 1-8. Today, deployments of dual-signature PDs allow for 51W to be delivered at the PD. Newer deployments, of devices like cameras and LED lighting, are likely to use single-signature PDs to save on overall product cost and take advantage of the higher 71W power availability. By providing support for Dual Signature and Single Signature PDs now, investments in Perle products for network infrastructure are protected as the Media Converters will not need to be replaced when the PD is updated.

In addition, the PD Power Reset function allows a central site administrator to momentarily turn off output power supplied to remote PDs for 2 seconds, initiating a remote reboot.

“There are a lot of scenarios where there is no AC or DC power available, such as in ceilings, kiosks, light posts and pipelines,” says John Feeney, COO at Perle Systems. “Perle PoE Media Converters enable you to reach these devices, that can be up to 160km away, and also to power them over copper cabling.”

S-1110HP Hi-PoE Media Converters include 72 separate models to meet various environmental requirements and connect with any fiber type or connector directly with no need for adapters. Choose from models with SFP transceiver ports or fixed fiber ports that support multimode or single mode with dual ST/SC connectors or single strand SC connectors. This allows for flexible network configurations to:

- extend the life of non-fiber-based equipment by enabling data transmission from 10/100/1000Base-T devices over 100/1000Base-X fiber,
- extend the distance of an existing network by linking CAT5/6/7 cabling to multimode or single mode fiber up to 160km, and
- protect Ethernet data from EMI noise and interference by inter-connecting your copper-Ethernet devices over fiber.

S-1110HP Hi-PoE Media Converters also feature some models with an operating temperature support of -40C to +75C (-40F to +167F).

All Perle Media Converters have an on-board micro-controller to deal with error detection and recovery by continuously monitoring the status of the links connected to its transceiver ports. If there is a break or failure in the link, both end devices become aware and react accordingly. In addition, Perle only uses high-end components to ensure product reliability. This is backed up with a Lifetime Warranty to guarantee user satisfaction.
