U-Florida Student Wins GEICO Achievement Award

University of Florida Student Wins $1,000 Scholarship through GEICO and NSCS, an honor society inviting freshmen and sophomores.

Washington, DC, April 03, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Krystal Marshall has received the GEICO Achievement Award, a $1,000 scholarship awarded to one member of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS). NSCS is an honor society inviting freshmen and sophomores.

Marshall is a junior at the University of Florida, where she is majoring in management. She also serves as treasurer at her university’s NSCS chapter.

Criteria for selection include academics, leadership, and participation in school and community activities. The contest is open to NSCS members who are sophomores and juniors majoring in business, math, computer science or other related fields. Judges for the contest included eight GEICO employees in the fields of recruiting, leadership development, product management and underwriting research.

“We are excited to present Krystal with our 2008 Achievement Award,” said Shannon Smedstad, GEICO’s e-Recruiting & Branding Specialist. “She was selected after careful consideration from a very impressive list of students. We chose her because of her superior academic record, the quality of her leadership and extracurricular activities, and the glowing letter of recommendation that accompanied her application.”

Stephen E. Loflin, NSCS’ executive director said that the Achievement Award is a wonderful opportunity for students. “The award recognizes students like Krystal, who have worked hard and deserve financial assistance,” he said. “We’re proud to be partners with a company like GEICO, which recognizes and rewards high-achievers like Krystal.”
