Zero Empty Spaces (ZES) Transforms Empty Storefronts and Properties Into Affordable Artist Studios Spaces in Broward County

The Grand Opening of the first Zero Empty Spaces (ZES) location on Las Olas takes place on August 1, 2019 from 7pm – 10pm, providing an important boost for the county’s artist community.

Fort Lauderdale, FL, July 25, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Creative Marketing Consultancy UniteUs Group, the company behind Choose954, Art Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale Art & Design Week, FemAle Brew Fest and other culture & community building initiatives, launches Zero Empty Spaces (ZES) to provide artists with safe, affordable artist studio space in Broward County.

As many areas throughout the county continue to be developed there are still many unused, vacant spaces that have been sitting vacant for a myriad of reasons. Zero Empty Spaces (ZES) aims to revitalize empty spaces and areas around venues by providing affordable studio space for artists in addition to bringing thoughtful, high caliber art installations with accompanying programs with the goal of expanding the audience of contemporary art and helping to create a thriving cultural community throughout Broward County.

The exhibitions, education and public programs are free and accessible to everyone and bolster the surrounding local businesses through the increased flow of visitors that these exhibitions attract and by arranging programs such as panel discussions, music and performance evenings, artist conversations and more.

The idea with Zero Empty Spaces is that artists don’t have to make expensive and risky real estate investments to hone their craft, but instead can affordably find spaces that fit their unique needs in multiple areas throughout the county. In addition, each artist will have their own page on the (ZES) website displaying images, bio, contact information (if desired) and links to artist’s website(s).

The UniteUs Group team will subdivide, and sublet these spaces as artist studios and carry all liability and insurance responsibilties in addition to the utilities — with the goal of acquiring more vacant properties over time to both ad to the inventory of available spaces for artists and help with walkability and programming in neighborhoods with chronic vacancies or abandoned properties. All (ZES) spaces are available 24hrs a day for the artists, but storefront spaces will have a requirement of artists to be in the space full-time (12pm - 5pm) in order to activate the area and will only be utilized solely for artists to create and not as an art gallery for sales.

"By turning these spaces into safe, affordable artist studio space on a short term 30-day leased basis is a win-win for both landlord, artist and city, says Andrew Martineau, UniteUs Group / Partner and Zero Empty Spaces (ZES) / co-creator. In our daily interactions with the creative community myself and my partner Evan Snow found many artists finding it hard to find safe, affordable artist studio space, and in lieu of us trying to purchase a property ourselves we thought that activating chronically vacant space on a short-term basis can provide much more value to everyone involved."

Broward County is overflowing with talent and imagination, and its creativity is increasingly making the county a place where people want to live, work and visit. This initiative supports the creative sector and sends a clear signal that Broward County is open to creativity, talent and innovation, especially with the first location being on the busy shopping and historic strip, Las Olas Boulevard.

“The Las Olas Company is excited about working with Zero Empty Spaces to promote the arts and culture of local artists and help further their craft in the community. The interaction of visitors this new initiative will provide is just another way that we are bringing new and unique experiences to the Boulevard. Cultural awareness has always been an integral part of the Las Olas company’s DNA,” says Mike Weymouth, President Las Olas Company.

914 East Las Olas artist tenants include: Rosanna Kalis, Steve Diossy, SURGE, Laura Ficorilli-Cray and Laurie Phoenix Niewidok aka Skirtzophrenic.
