Where the Cars Are the Stars – 1953 Motorama Cars – Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance Presented by Porsche
Let’s go back to the days of “dream cars,” where not only were these cars destined for an elite audience but were destined for a travelling road show that spanned more than a decade.
Kemble, Canada, August 23, 2019 --(PR.com)-- The Cars are the Stars at 7th Annual Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance, as they take to the stage and to the green, at the Cobble Beach Golf Resort Community. With 16 classes in total for judging purposes, each class will consist of either 4 or 8 vehicles, hand selected by a committee of automotive enthusiasts who study each vehicle closely, paying attention to the finer details, right down to the correct bolts used for that cars’ time period. On Sunday, September 15, 2019, a panel of 48 judges take to the 18th fairway at Cobble Beach Golf Resort Community and begin scoring each of these vehicles against others in their class, in order to choose the best in that class. First, second and third place is awarded within each class, and each class winner is eligible for one of the Best of Show, the Most Outstanding Pre or Post War awards.

From 1950 through to 1961, GM’s latest production cars were presented to mass audience’s across North America, as a travelling car show. Of those production cars displayed, the Cadillac Eldorado, the Buick Skylark and the Oldsmobile Fiesta – a trifecta of luxurious “sports convertibles” were introduced for the 1953 installation of Motorama, opening to the public in New York City’s Waldorf Astoria ballroom, including the first appearance of the trifecta.
The 1953 Cadillac Series 62 Eldorado, seen in the Motorama class represents the production version introduced at the 1953 Motorama show, displaying a painted metal tonneau cover for the retractable top, wide white-walled real wire tires. Inside, there are leather seats, a leather-finished instrument panel, simulated leather hand grips on the steering wheel and chrome garnishes throughout.
The 1953 Buick Roadmaster Skylark, originating from a sketch by Buick’s design division’s general manager, the production version evolved from a 1951 Roadmaster convertible. Cut-down doors, unique fenders, full wheel openings with moldings that swooped up over them would lead to a styling signature identifying Buicks for years to come. Leather upholstery, power brakes and steering, hydraulic windows, a radio and electric power antenna were all standard on the 1953 vintage.
The 1953 Oldsmobile 98 Fiesta, the last of the trifecta featured, was also the least known, and the rarest. Given the fact that it was not well promoted may have led to its lack of popularity, however, it didn’t look that much different from another Oldsmobile’s. Loaded with every factory option of the day, including leather upholstery, a headlight dimmer, backup lights, power brakes and steering, hydraulic power windows and front seat, it also had a heater/defroster and a "Wonderbar" radio.

The 2019 Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance takes place Saturday, September 14 & Sunday, September 15, 2019 featuring judged (vehicle) classes ranging in automobiles from the early 1900's to present day.
