Securisyn Medical Awarded Second Air Force Contract for Innovation

Denver, CO, August 24, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Securisyn Medical, LLC, dedicated to inspiring the world to collaborate to make airway management safer, announced today that the United States Air Force (USAF) has awarded the Company a $50,000 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract under Special Topics in the 19.2 Cycle through AFWERX and AFRL. Under this contract, Securisyn will work with USAF Medical Providers to determine if the Company’s proprietary integrated restraint system (IRS) technology and design concept, SolidAIRity CT, is a superior method to prevent inadvertent chest tube dislodgement, which occurs throughout all echelons of the military healthcare system in deployed and operational environments.

“We are honored and humbled to have been chosen again to partner with the Air Force by applying our novel technology and IP towards airway management solutions for protecting their greatest assets," said Securisyn Medical CEO Mark Bruning. “We approached this unique opportunity in much the same fashion we had earlier this year with the Air Force at their inaugural Pitch Day competition in NYC for the SBIR Phase I award we received, with the singular goal of delivering elegant, efficient interventions that can be applied at the point of injury to tip the balance in the patient’s favor. This new contract award is additional validation that what we’re doing is meaningful to warfighters on the front lines and throughout the entire continuum of care. Securisyn will use these funds to further gain unique warfighter insights based upon feedback from the evaluation teams and in the field.”

Greg Letendre, Securisyn’s VP of Business Development for the Federal Sector, USAFA graduate, and former Air Force officer, added “As a veteran and spouse of a current active duty airman, I’m looking forward to our opportunity to collaborate with the Air Force on this vital need that exists not only for our military but also for civilians. The risk of chest tube dislodgement during treatment and evacuation of patients is significant and we are committed to creating a solution to simply and safely reduce that possibility. The austere environment of the battlefield makes chest tube dislodgement even more possible for our warfighters, especially early in the phases of care and transport. We have a great opportunity to work closely with our Air Force medical providers and to get their feedback as we refine our solution.”

This innovative US Air Force SBIR program, Special Topics, AF192-D001, was developed in partnership with AFRL and AFWERX and are part of on-going efforts to increase the efficiency, effectiveness, and transition rate of the SBIR program. Several previous barriers to working with the Air Force have been removed or mitigated in this program, to include a shorter application process, an accelerated contract award, and a shorter period of performance. Ryan Helbach, Chief Intrapreneur at the Air Force Research Laboratory has said about the SBIR program “it is definitely a change to the normal way of doing business. We’re able to better interact with non-traditional companies by working at the speeds they are used to and all of the technology that’s being developed has dual-use aspects…”
